Caring For Your Oral Health Over The Holiday Season
We don’t know about you, but at Integrity Dental, we are thrilled that the holiday season has rolled around again. We know that many of our patients are busy planning their holiday events, get-togethers with friends and family, and celebrating traditions that may have been cancelled during the last holiday season. While we want you to enjoy this season, we also want to give you a few reminders of ways to ensure optimal oral health during holiday festivities. We would hate for our patients to experience dental decay or a dental emergency due to overindulging.
Schedule Your Hygiene Appointment
If it has been longer than six months since you last visited our office, we recommend scheduling an appointment before the end of the year. Not only can you take advantage of your insurance benefits before they reset at the beginning of next year, but you will also have the peace of mind that there are no issues with your oral health. Maintaining routine examinations and cleanings help to limit dental emergencies as we can spot and quickly treat any problem areas in the mouth.
Maintain Your Oral Hygiene Routine
After a long day of holiday fun, it can be tempting to avoid cleaning your teeth and simply plop into bed to sleep for the night. We do not recommend doing this. Not only will you feel better going to sleep with a fresh, clean mouth, you will also be sure that all lingering bacteria has been removed. Not brushing and flossing after a day of eating and drinking can quickly lead to decay and the need for dental treatments.
Limit Sugary Treats
The holiday season is a time known for delicious goodies and drinks. While it can be tempting to indulge, it is important to enjoy these treats in moderation. Eating large amounts of sugar in a short period of time greatly increases your risk for problems with your oral health. The same can also be said for overindulging on holiday cocktails.
If you experience a dental emergency over the holidays, be sure to contact our office located in Wellington, FL as soon as possible. We can determine if you need to be seen immediately. As mentioned above, if it has been longer than six months since your last hygiene examination, we suggest scheduling your next appointment in the near future. We hope to see you soon and wish you a happy and healthy holiday season!
